Computerization of Railway reservation has been a success story for Indian Railways. Passenger Reservation System is the world's largest online Railway reservation system that has been developed, implemented and maintained by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

Our Solution


CONCERT (Country-wide Network for Computerized Enhanced reservation and Ticketing) is a mission critical Online Transaction Processing Application based on a distributed database model. It has been implemented using 3 tier Client Server architecture with 4 data centres at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. These data centres provide access to end user terminal locations in their respective geographical territory. Besides other ICT infrastructure, each of these data centres hosts database for trains belonging to the Railway zones that come under the specific data centre.


The Next Generation e-Ticketing (NGeT) System has brought about a paradigm shift in online rail reservation service simplifying day to day life of millions of citizens, Railway being one of the most popular transport medium and lifeline of our country. This system has about 04 crore users spread all over the country and provides them the facility of doing train berth/seat reservation from their homes/offices or through mobile phones without requiring to go to the rail reservation centres.


To enhance travel experience and to bring greater transparency for the Indian Railway passengers, the Reservation Charts are now available for public view on the internet. This will facilitate the prospective passengers in getting the information of the vacant berths available in the train after chart preparation. Complete information of vacant berths from train source as well as intermediate locations will be available to the user. Prospective customer can use the information for onboard booking of vacant berths by TTE as per business rules. This feature is available in web as well as mobile version.


Indian Railway's e-ticketing System is one of the most essential services running in the country today. It caters to over 10 lakhs passengers daily (comprising 57 percent of total reserved passengers) who can book Railways reserved tickets without leaving their homes/offices. To increase the ease to users, an Android & iOS based mobile app for reserved booking "IRCTC Rail Connect" has been developed to bring the power of Next Generation E-ticketing System like High Performance and Enhanced Security.


PASSENGER RESERVATION INFORMATION MANAGEMENT ENHANCED SYSTEM (PRIMES) is developed with an objective of providing a one-stop destination for all types of reports to Indian Railways including MIS reports, DSS reports and analytics reports for reserved passengers, unreserved passengers and other IT systems of Indian Railways. PRIMES is available to Railway officials with live data of PRS and some of the data of UTS. The website provides a tool to the Indian Railway officials to analyze and deep dive into the vast volume of data available with PRS with respect to passengers, utilization, and train and berth inventory details etc.


Data Warehouse system of PRS serves as Decision Support System (DSS) for Railway Managers by furnishing trend analysis for utilisation and earnings of reserved segment of passenger traffic based on historical data. There are more than 250 reports available in Data Warehouse system of PRS which provides access to the past data of more than 10 years based on PNR records available in the system.


Database management system for PRS provides a graphical user interface to the Railway users for changes in train, fare, stations, users and terminals definitions in the database. This is a back-office application used by Railway database administration staff.


The ever-increasing demand for transportation of goods as well as the rise in passenger traffic is pushing Indian Railways to increase their capacity while managing its assets across vast network spread across the country. Given this need, the industry is focusing on effective asset utilization, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing safety and reliability. The aim and relevance of having a data analytics vertical is to move from reactive strategy to proactive strategy. Hence, the aim is to use Data Analytics in determining heavy demand routes for the purpose of planning coach augmentation in existing trains and new train planning, coach production forecasting and customer segmentation among many others on Indian Railways.


One of the critical functionality that has been also developed is Waitlist Confirmation Prediction. A new system has been developed using advanced analytics concepts of machine learning. The model is prepared using the actual PNRs of more than 2 years. A web service based application has been developed to serve the real time Waitlist Confirmation Prediction enquiries.
