Project IV group has successfully designed and implemented Web-enabled Claims Phase-I. It has two projects on hand

  1. Parcel Management System

    Railway Board has sanctioned a Pilot project for computerization of parcel offices of seven stations of Delhi-Howrah Corridor namely Delhi, New Delhi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Gaya, Sealdah and Howrah at an estimated cost of Rs.2 Crores. Once implemented this project will have the following benefits:-

    • Reduction in time for weighment and booking
    • Advance loading guidance according to availability of space thereby optimum use of available space and control on overloading
    • Prior information about the inward traffic
    • Loading according to priority
    • Web-enabled to know about latest position of the parcel
    • Dynamic Management tool
    • Reduction in Claims

    Parcel Management System has following modules:-
    • Booking and Delivery Modules
    • Loading and Unloading modules
    • Demurrage and Wharfage calculation
    • VP and lease Booking
    • Printing of Bar Code Labels on packages and scanning
    • On Line Status and tracking
    • Over-carriage and Undercarriage position over 7 stations of DLI-HWH route.

    Application Architecture
    Entire application has been developed in Java and it is based on generic three tiered centralized approach with commonly accessed Storage area Network. The data server machines(a cluster of Linux Servers) will have open hardware platform of Xeon. Apache and Apache Tomcat has been used in high availability and Load balancing mode. RDBMS is accessed by JDBC in clustered mode.

    Backend-RDBMS:
    Oracle 10 g Enterprise Edition in RAC environment.
    Middle Tier-Application Server:
    Apache/Apache Tomcat/Jboss
    Front End Clients:
    Windows XP embedded OS based thin clients/PDA with Internet Explorer 6.0

    Web-enabling of Claims offices Phase-II
    This project is related to the Web-enabling of Claims Phase-I and has three sub-parts which is hosted on http://www.claims.indianrail.gov.in

    Computerisation of Railway Claims Tribunals
    All 18 RCT offices throughout the country will be computerized and connected through Routers and LAN extenders to the nearest FOIS location. It can be seen on http:// www. rct.indianrail.gov.in

    Computerisation of Refund Goods
    Refund Goods application has already been launched and work on this application is already in progress by all zonal railways.

    Computerisation of Subsidiary Claims Offices

    21 subsidiary claims offices are being connected through nearest FOIS locations. These will start functioning on existing website address of Web Enabled Claims and on existing web based software, as additional users.
